These are the most beautiful canyons in the Western Balkans
We’re all about nature. You probably got this from our blog posts in the past. We love nature so much that we want to talk about it with you, even though it doesn’t necessarily include nature we can offer to you. This is why we decided to make a little list of the most beautiful canyons in the Balkans.
Some of those canyons are located in Montenegro, where we can take you for the most amazing canyoning experience ever, and some of them are spread around our beautiful south-eastern Europe. Make sure to see them all ‘cause they’re truly the most beautiful canyons in the Balkans.
#1 Tara River Canyon (MNE)
Ok, others are pretty cool, but what’s ours it’s ours! Gotta start with amazing Tara River Canyon. Not just that it is the place where we spend the most of our time, knowing that it is the place where the most exciting rafting adventure in Europe takes place, but also, it is the place where our rafting camp is located.
It is unbelievably large and beautiful. Green slopes of Durmitor mountain on one side and other dreamy hills make the path for Tara river. Also known as the Tear of Europe. Its water volume peaks make sure that even the most hardcore rafting fans get the proper excitement they seek.
Did you know that Tara river canyon is the 2nd largest canyon in the world? Yeah, that’s right! It comes right after the Grand Canyon of river Colorado.
#2 Canyon of the Uvac river (SRB)
When it comes to other important and beautiful canyon in the Balkan peninsula, we have to mention Uvac Canyon in south-western Serbia. It is one of the most beautiful canyons in the world. True wonder of nature and the embodiment of its power. Uvac river carved its path in the very unusual manner. At one point of the river stream, right between lakes of Sjenica and Zlatar, Uvac river meanders twist up to 270 degrees, creating a true nature gem and one of the most photographed views in the world. Also, this is one of the rarest natural habitat of bald eagles.
You can enjoy in the view of these meanders if you climb on a few viewing points, and the most famous one is Molitven. Uvac river cruise is something everyone should experience, just like we can offer amazing cruise down the Piva lake in Montenegro.
#3 Canyon Nevidio (MNE)
Let’s get back to our beloved Montenegro and experience once again how the true adrenaline rush feels like. We say adrenaline rush because Canyon Nevidio is the place where adrenaline driven canyoning adventure takes place. When you say Canyoning Montenegro, everyone immediately think of Canyon Nevidio.
It isn’t the type of canyon that you can get to know by simply standing on its slopes and calmly watching it. But it is the place where you have to dig in a little bit to be able to experience it in the right manner. One reason for this is the fact that Canyon Nevidio is so narrow that you can’t even see it some angles, and the other reason is because it’s beauty can be seen only from other perspective. From its depths, buy swimming, jumping and touching stone cold rocks. That’s all what canyoning is really about. Go for canyoning and feel Nevidio.
#4 Canyon Hrcavka (BIH)
Hrcavka canyon is the part of National Park Sutjeska in Bosnia & Herzegovina. It is formed by beautiful Sutjeska river, and by any standards,s it is the place where the most extreme canyoning takes place. Yeah, that’s right, Tarasport can take on a canyoning trip to Hrcavka canyon.
Sutjeska is the largest and oldest National Park in Bosnia & Herzegovina, therefore you can imagine how great Hrcavka Canyon really is. Untouched nature, with moss covered stones that are splashed by fast river current, are the sight for all senses. Enjoy the view with your eyes, feel the vibe and smell the fresh air. This is the place for both zen relaxation and excitement that will drive you for days after canyoning adventure is over.
#5 Omis - Cetina river canyon (CRO)
River Cetina is a beautiful river in the southern region of Croatia - Dalmatia. It forms beautiful Cetina River Canyon, called Omis. Cetina river flows into the Adriatic sea, and on its way there forms a beautiful canyon. Steep and rough cliffs add up to the already beautiful “exterior” of Omis canyon. Many go here for a swim, zip-line and other activities.
Even though many are beautiful, we still think that canyons in Montenegro and Bosnia are among the most beautiful. There are tons of waterfalls, river rapids and endemic species for those whom like to explore. Come to the Balkans, explore these beautiful western Balkan Canyons, and enjoy your stay.
